West Indes batsmen: Converting fifties into centuries

I compiled this list earlier. I thought others might be interested in the results:



The list is sorted from highest conversion rate to the lowest.

George Headley has the highest conversion rate - converting 66.67% of his fifties into centuries. Gus Logie has the lowest conversion rate at 11.11%.

Can we just ask West Indian batsmen to convert their 20sumting

to a 50........thanks much

Oh an while at it ask Samuels and Bravo to elevate their overall average.....thx!

But look how many 50s Shiv hit: 66. Much more than anyone else.

The surprise in that list, for me, is Ritchie Richardson.

Good read. Historically, batsmen effectively average 2 runs more per innings once they get off the mark. So, their conversion rate from 50 to 100 should be, on average, exp(-50/(avg+2)).

Using that formula, Chanderpaul's expected conversion rate is 39.18. So he did indeed underperform his expected conversion rate.

I have gone ahead and updated the original graphic to include each batsmen's expected conversion rate.

As we can see, there were some big name players that had a below expectancy conversion rate, including Kanhai, Richards, Lloyd, Haynes, Chanderpaul, Butcher, Worrell, Gayle, and Fredericks.

As I still had the raw data to hand, I formulated the innings per 50 for each batsmen. Frank Worrell tops the list scoring a fifty once every 3.95 innings. Daren Ganga brings up the rear with a fifty once every 9.56 innings.

And finally, innings per 100. George Headley tops the list scoring a century once every 4 innings. While Gus Logie sputtered his way to a century once every 39 innings.

Yeah 50 is a better expectation when your squad was loaded with talent!

2st Century ??  ..getting a 50 ........would be a huge BONUS for our batsmen !
