Maria Sharapova has been suspended for two years by the International Tennis Federation for illegal doping. The tennis star tested positive for meldonium in January; she said at the time she was not aware that the drug was banned. Because of the time of her test, her Australian Open results from January will be voided and she will forfeit the prize money.

There is no scientific evidence that this drug improves your performance. But because many Russians were taking it, it was banned. So it was a political decision, not one based on any facts.

If one of the Williams sisters was found with dope they would have been banned for life!!

Damn, i don't follow her closely but i do like her. She proved to be a great tennis player. Too bad for her.

I honestly couldn't care less about this because I do not accept tennis as a real sport. However, it really is a harsh punishment since she used this drug for a long time now. It seems like they were just waiting to snatch her the rights to play. It should have been more like, "Listen Maria, we are putting this drug on a doping list. We know you are using it for health issues so you need to know that you have to find another solution for that."
Even if she didn't use it then she would have some traces of it because she was using it for years.
