Well from the time you see mud Exaggerator hoof was dancing in the parade.

that horse luv mud and jockey waited till the last quarter mile !  8)

The best horse in that race is still Nyquist. When I  saw the first quarter time of 22.36 seconds  on a muddy  track ;I knew that Nyquist was finished and that he actually made the board is remarkable by itself . This horse never had a breather . The jockey made a mistake by trying to go for the lead when the gate opened . He should have waited for a trip .  Must be the fastest opening quarter in Preakness history

For all you arm-chair jockeys who have never been on a horse- race horses don't have gas pedals, don't have brakes and sometimes don't have steering wheels.Once Nyquist was in the race, that was- you don't arm-wrestle horses back if they want to go on. Stuff happens, Ex needed fast pace and loves slop.

Ex is a closer and obviously a fast pace would favour him
