Who says Test cricket is boring? 400+ runs on the first day in both this Test and in Australia. Over the last 12 months, New Zealand and Australia have taken scoring in Test matches to a whole different level. New Zealand have scored at 3.91 runs per over in the last year - the best among all teams, with Australia second, scoring 3.88 runs per over. Pakistan are a distant third at 3.44 rpo.

New Zealand bowled out for 431. Boult gets the early wicket of Mendis. Sri Lanka 23/1. Mathews might be regretting choosing to field first at this point.

Jayasundera with a debut to forget, dismissed for 1. Sri Lanka in trouble at lunch 38/2.

This Test is playing out very similarly to the first Test between these two sides back in December of last year. Sri Lanka won the toss, elected to field, New Zealand posted 441 in the first innings and Sri Lanka collapsed to 138. They did put up a better fight when asked to follow on, but New Zealand strolled home to an 8 wicket win.
