Test team of the year: David Warner, Alastair Cook (captain), Kane Williamson, Younis Khan, Steven Smith, Joe Root, Sarfraz Ahmed (wk), Stuart Broad, Trent Boult, Yasir Shah, Josh Hazlewood, R Ashwin (12th man)

ODI team of the year: Tillakaratne Dilshan, Hashim Amla, Kumar Sangakkara (wk), AB de Villiers (capt), Steven Smith, Ross Taylor, Trent Boult, Mohammed Shami, Mitchell Starc, Mustafizur Rahman, Imran Tahir, Joe Root (12th man)

Ashwin can consider himself desperately unlucky not to have made the starting XI in the Test side - no bowler has more wickets this year or a better strike-rate. I would have also selected Starc ahead of Boult in my XI. Other than that, the Test team picked itself.

It was great to see Mustafizur Rahman's efforts recognised by the ICC - becoming the first Bangladesh cricketer to be included in the ICC's ODI team of the year.

I believe the ODI team of the year only takes into consideration performances in 50-over matches, not T20. This would explain their omission. Joe Root's inclusion as the 12th man in the ODI side ahead of Kane Williamson is mystifying to me. Williamson can consider himself real hard done by - he was the leading run scorer in ODI cricket this year and at an average of 57.

Disappointing that no South Africans stood a chance of making the test team. We played five tests during the period for selection, and three of those were ruined by rain. At least we're well represented in the ODI teamย  Smile

Not a windian on de horizon.

Even a second XI would not have any.

Had Steyn and de Villiers played enough matches, they would have absolutely made my Test team. Steyn in for Hazlewood, and then I would have to make a really tough decision to squeeze AB into the team.

As for the ODI team, AB is on a completely different planet to the rest of the batsman.
