The holiday commemorates the story of the Prophet Ibrahim (aka Abraham among Christians and Jews),
who was willing to sacrifice his son Ismail (aka Ishmael) at God’s command.
But when Ibrahim was on the verge of sacrificing Ismail, God spared the boy ;
replacing him with either a lamb or a ram. 8)
Eid al-Adha also marks the end of hajj, the pilgrimage to Mecca that able-bodied, devout Muslims
are supposed to make at least once in their lifetimes as one of the five pillars of Islam.
It starts the 10th day of the Islamic month of Dhu al-Hijjah, the final month on the Islamic calendar.
[/quote] What would have happened if Allah did not substitute an animal . Would that have meant that Muslims would have had to practice human sacrifice?
Why would a loving god asked someone to sacrifice a child , could it not be that the story was wrongly written and that it was Satan that that made this request? After all Satan embodies evil .
Was it not Satan that tempted Eve and did not Satan tries to tempt Jesus?
Abraham had 2 sons Issac, father of the Jews and Ishmael , father of Arabs . The stories are identical .
Abraham offered Ishmael for sacrifice and later Issac . Wouldn't Abraham knew the second time what would happen that the boy would be substituted for an animal ?. Also Abraham slept with Hagar the maid an Ishmael was conceived .
My other point is this . Is it OK to sleep with the maid?
