Quote:You either believe the admins are ashamed, fed-up and genuinely making efforts to improve things at the grassroots, or you believe the WICB are a bunch of over-paid morons doomed to repeat the same mistakes over and over and over. I think it's a little bit of both.
there is a third option. we know that the wicb is now a fully fledged bureau and what that means. the bureau has substituted its interest for that of the cricket, monopolizing the revenue to meet its existential needs. the cricket comes second if even that.
the bureau if it understood what it could do to alleviate a downturn in the flow of talent never gave such an impression and have been doing but impoverishing the game by placing its interest first
the bureau thinks nothing of spending 300k annually for a coach which by Titty currency is about a million dollars a year. now that Lloyd is chair of selectors his salary must be up there too. so must the chairman, v-chair and CEO. and as we count down staff we technical and professional people who must command money equal to what was the last figure I saw players getting. then again the wicb is now at leat sixty people so we talking computer people, clerical people, data entry etc. the impression I have is that wicb salary requirements annually is likely 10 million dollars or more of some currency. it wont be Jamaican, Guyanan or Bim. it cud be Titty..or EC. prolly a mix of the last 2, along with USD. no wonder they had to cut the players so drastically.
so the first priority of the wicb currently is the disbursement of revenues to pay itself. what programs cud have been developed to attract talent and mitigate the current dearth..many but there cannot possibly be money for that given the drain of the admin. so there is less and less food for players upon whom the game depends. and if it will take a generation to fix the dearth of talent how is the wicb going to ensure that when almost every other sports offer far better rewards than they do. what is the point of playing cricket in the west when the administration gets far more money out of the game than the players ::confused::
the cricket talent problem will never be fixed as long as there is a parasitic bureau in place..NEVER! it is this way..the way the bureau functions as parasite and leech on the cricket that is responsible for the west indian fall from grace...the cricket is just about dead and cannot be resurrected unless the bureau is killed...and a way found to run the cricket that is socialist in nature, very voluntary, nevertheless becomes an unpaid sinecure that can be maybe to be very worthy in the society and career advancement
in this way we can have a continual flow of quality people flowing through the wicb at staggered 2 year intervals to ensure continuity, in clear programs that focuses on the development of the game and feeds it with 70-80% of the revenue it brings in
there are ways..but the establishment of a traditional bureau to run west indies cricket is counter-productive..it ensures its death as a burea does not ensure english cricket deaht for eg. in the england of 65 million people and loads of revenue.. or OZ with 20 million people but a very rich nation.
that is the third reason..and basic it is
