Quote:You seem to be arguing that "people don't care about these things" because they are "too busy looking for food, sex and satisfying other basic needs".
Kim, however, is warning that the first layer of Maslow's hierarchhy - the eco-system (which provides food, water, air, absorbs waste etc) - is being destroyed by systems which commodify these resources for short-sighted profit. In otherwords, what is currently satisfying your needs, providing you with life, sustaining you, is unsustainable and will harm (is harming) millions, the planet, future generations and the species.
Kim is arguing for foresight, long-term planning and caring for the future and others. Your comment about Maslow alludes to the opposite: individualism, satiating short term desires etc.
No, i am not arguing that people don't care...I am arguing that while everyone should be concerned, the people who are still in the basic need mode will care less! Plus, the parties like gov't and protective agencies are the ones with the ability and resources are the ones who and are managing this.
So MAps point and profit and loss is crap! Profit will always come first...else there is no business! Businesses, like people are also in different stages. The ones in the infant stage are on survival mode, while the mature ones are survival plus growth. They are governed by the same environmental laws created by the governing said Gov'ts/agencies.
Bottom line there is a role for everyone...the degree of that roles varies by responsibilities.
