West Indies' appointment of a new coach in Phil Simmons, who made impressive use of limited resources with Ireland,

has inspired new optimism among the Caribbean cognoscenti.

There again he has only been in the job a week: everybody deserves a honeymoon period.

Simmons' reputation for a strong team ethic and good planning comes at a timely juncture.
