Sophia lad represents Guyana at Quranic competition in Kuwait



A 22-year-old young man of Sophia, Greater Georgetown, has represented Guyana at a prestigious international competition.
Brother Melanik Simeon James, who has memorised the Quran, represented Guyana at the sixth International Quranic Competition for memorisation, recitation and interpretation of the Holy Quran during the period April 1-8 in Kuwait.

This competition was hosted by His Royal Highness, The Emir of Kuwait, Sheikh Sabah Al Ahmad Al Jaber Al Sabah and the Ministry of Awqaf and Religious Affairs of Kuwait.
Brother James was selected and recommended by the Central Islamic Organisation of Guyana, a release from the Organisation said, to represent Guyana at this competition

This brother  memorized the Koran. When I was going to high school , I memorized the periodic table . Guess who is more intelligent ?

From the moment I read the first sentence of this article I thought "Another young mind lost to superstition and stupidity". 8)

My point is why memorize the Koran , Wouldn't it be better to memorize a science treatise  instead?
