Australians wary of unpredictable Pakistan

Pakistan ended Australia's World Cup winning streak in 2011 and the co-hosts will desperate to avoid a repeat

Shane Watson knows all too well how potent Pakistan's unpredictability can be at a World Cup. Watson was part of the XI that was beaten by four wickets in 2011, when Pakistan ended Australia's run of 34 unbeaten World Cup games. Pakistan just like the West Indies are very unpredictable and can beat any team on their day. Pakistan is still the big underdogs in this match and I am hoping that they will come good so that we will have a very competitive match.

Since 2014, Pakistan are 10-14 in ODI's, including a 3-0 defeat against Australia in Dubai last year. Of their 10 wins, only 5 were against teams ranked in the top 8 (South Africa, India, Sri Lanka and New Zealand (twice)). Their last ODI series win came in December 2013 against Sri Lanka in the UAE.

It looks as though this could be a low scoring match. Pakistan were bowled out for 224 in a loss against India earlier in the World Cup at Adelaide. Sohail Khan did pick up 5 wickets for Pakistan in that match. Highest ever score in an ODI at Adelaide is 339 by West Indies in 2005.

The first innings totals at Adelaide Oval in this World Cup have decreased with every match - 300 by India, 275 by Bangladesh and 237 by Ireland - while just four of the 47 wickets have fallen to spinners.

@Downie ..... Warner & Finch to open, drop Watto down to bat with Maxie (seemed to do better down the order), Cummins or Hazlewood ????? :-\

I guess that 'warm-ups' don't count as 'official' games, but in warm-up match in Adelaide in the lead-up to the tournament, AUS smashed 371 in a 106-run win against India.
