This Wednesday is Ash Wednesday and this signifies the onset of the period of lent which will end forty days after in Easter. During this period Christians gives themselves a challenge and give up something. This is as a symbol of dedication as Christ fasted during this period of forty days and forty nights and was crucified at the end of it.

Will you be giving up anything of consequence this period of Lent?

That's not true.

It all depends on the habits you're enslaved to.

Good habits are not slavish.

Lent!  as a bush catholic I was stunned when sent to east port of spain by relatives to spend weeks before and after carnival !  now dat was/is PoS ghetto and juke boxes blasting calypso and so on...on Ash wednesday jolted my little soul.

in dat area carnival never stopped.  people paid no mind at all to the catholic church.  there was absolutely no observance of Lent or anything required by any church.  ash wednesday was like any other day...everything open and going orn as usual....

oh well eyes begin to get open
