CARICOM does not equal West Indies?

I have a serious question. How can countries like Suriname, Belize and the Bahamas be members of CARICOM and yet not be a part of the West Indies Cricket team? I saw Bermuda take part in the 2007 WC but I understand that they are only associate members of CARICOM. These nations have their own national cricket teams and play in the lower tier ICC competitions. Why are they not playing in our regional competitions and adding to our player pool? Or is there no correlation between CARICOM membership and West Indies Cricket Association membership? I'm just curious

Associate Members

The governing body for cricket (recognised by the ICC) of a country, or countries associated for cricket purposes, or a geographical area, which does not qualify as a Full Member but where cricket is firmly established and organised.

The West Indies Cricket Team is only one of two institutions in the region that we all do as one. The other is the University of the West Indies. I just don't understand why member states of CARICOM that have national cricket teams are not incorporated into the West Indies set up as well. Otherwise why is CARICOM affiliated with the West Indies and writing letter to BCCI on WICB behalf when some of it's cricketing nation members don't even play in our regional set up?

Bermuda is NOT an independent country.

Still a colony !

Ketchim I mentioned in my post that Bermuda does not count. They are only Associate members of CARICOM not full members. Unless your going to say that the reason why Bahamas, Beliz and Suriname can be FULL MEMBERS or CARICOM, have their own National cricket teams and yet not play in our regional games...is because those countries I just named are not Independent as well? No. Those countries I just mentioned are independent, are a part of CARICOM and not playing cricket for us..why??

If any of the current nations in the WICB go it on their own they will be playing in the same leagues that Bermuda, Suriname, Beliz and Bahamas playing in..so why those teams, who's nations are members of CARICOM..not playing in our regional tournaments and adding to the WI team?
