Michael Clarke is a fantastic captain of Australia and a brilliant batsman but nothing could prepare him for what happened when Phil Hughes was tragically killed playing cricket. Clarke’s response has been described as the model of leadership. But it was not about leadership. He was just being himself and trying to look after his pal’s family. He delivered a moving eulogy at Hughes’s funeral and spoke with real compassion and dignity. I’m not sure if I could have could have got through something like that. He then put the emotion to one side and scored a century in Adelaide, placing his body on the line in the process. I can’t imagine what his emotions must have been like.[/size]
