The FDNY has promoted an African-American woman to lieutenant for the first time in more than a decade. Tracy Lewis, of Engine 222 in Bed-Stuy, has become only the second black female in the department’s history to receive the rank. She is among only nine African-American women firefighters currently in the FDNY.
