When Brian Lara led a strike against managementย for better remuneration and conditions , Chanderpaul betrayed the players and accepted the captaincy of the team that toured Sri, Lanka .
He was resented by the players for a long time .

Had it not been for the generosity of Chetty, Shiv would never have made it to the West Indies team. Shiv never forgot Chetty's kindness and remained loyal to him.
