George Bailey steps down as Australia's T20 captain

George Bailey on Sunday stepped down as Australia's Twenty20 captain, saying that he wants to focus on his Test career.

"George Bailey has resigned as Australia's Twenty20 captain, citing a desire to focus on first-class cricket," Cricket Australia said in a statement.

Bailey has handed in his notice as captain of the national Twenty20 team as he eyes a possible return to Test ranks through improved red-ball performances and Australia look to rebuild ahead of the 2016 World Twenty20 in India.

I hope he does well in whatever he purses later on in life.

i am not sure why he actually stepped down as captain. His performance have not been too bad and it not like he retiring from the format altogether. Was he just tired? or did not want to captain anymore? Maybe it has to do with his batting but I really do not feel that it was necessary at this point of time.

Really ???  Well I never saw that coming and was a surprise  :o  ... but AUS cricket is ever changing for the future !!

Sensible move if he wants to focus on regaining his test place. At 32, Bailey has done well with this team and in this format. As much as I am able to like an Aussie ( ), I like this chap. Nice attitude and a pretty good player who can get a test spot.

Likeable fellah, great smile and seemingly like personality  ....... who could resist ??  .. even if he is Aussie !!

IDK why though. He's still playing T20s though right? Is it that stressful? I mean he'd still have to play T20s so I don't get how 'concentration' is an issue here.

But good luck to him I guess. Who's the next in line though? Haddo? Warner?

Well, more power to him if he wants to work and improve my resigning from a key position, but I don't think it's a good move.

Well its seems like the position of captain has taken its toll on his performance and so if he thinks it is the right move then good for him. Some players just can't captain a team while still performing individually. Bailey is a good t20 player but maybe not captain material.

I too reckon it was a great gesture to step down and pave way for a new captain.With the 2016 WT20 fast approaching,Aus are in the perfect stage for changes and then testing them out.
