England call up Jason Roy for Twenty20 international against India

England have named uncapped batsman Jason Roy in their 14-man squad for the one-off NatWest Twenty20 International against India at Edgbaston.

Roy, 24, gets the call after a breakthrough season at Surrey, for whom he is the country's top NatWest Twenty20 Blast runscorer with 677 at an average of 48.35 and strike rate of almost 160.

The Durban-born batsman is joined in the squad, led by Eoin Morgan, to face India next Sunday by three other players not currently involved in the Royal London one-day international series.

They are Ravi Bopara - a surprise omission from the ODI squad - seamer Tim Bresnan and Nottinghamshire batsman James Taylor.

Morgan is again named as captain, as he was for England's Twenty20 against Sri Lanka earlier this summer, in the injury-enforced absence of Stuart Broad - who is set to undergo surgery on his knee this week.

Surely it is time to reconsider Luke Wright who has the same excellent statistics to his name as the outstanding Hales in the full game.

I am happy to see Roy get the call up. I was hoping he would be included in the 50-over team against India. Roy has put up some great numbers in the county game this season, averaging 48.35 in 15 t20 matches with 9 fifties.

I agree on Wright also. After a real struggle in 2013, he returned to form this year, averaging 50.08 in 14 matches with two centuries, three fifties and a high score of 153.

I am very unhappy Roy has been called up. 

I am very disappointed this silly ECB ruling is denying South Africa of the Pietersen lookalike.

We should be focussing on players like Taylor, Bopara, Carberry and many, more English lads......

Wright, tried and tested and confirmed failure but on his day in a T20 who knows....

Excellent! Roy is really good in shorter formats. I've seen him play, he's got the goods.

I'd anyday pick both Roy and Wright over many others in the side ATM. That's what baffles me - how could they mess around with the lineup so much? If they get their shit together, Poms can field a solid limited overs XI

I have never seen him playing, so I don't even know if it's going to do anything for the England team. Let's hope that England manages to win at least one match before this series is over.

Lets hope he does well, we could do with a hotshot at the moment with KP gone, lets hope Roy can deliver.

Well England is not the best in t20 and I do expect India to win all the matches in the series. England's only saving grace these days is test cricket. They ECB not letting  English players play in t20 tournaments around the world is certainly hurting England now when it comes to t20.
