Senanayake returns after remedial work on action

Sri Lanka Cricket hopes to have offspinner Sachithra Senanayake cleared by the ICC over the next few months, after biomechanics experts were confident his action had been sufficiently remedied.

Senanayake has returned to Sri Lanka after ten days of remedial work with human movement expert Darryl Foster at the University of Western Australia, after which he underwent an unofficial biomechanics test at the institute. The details of whether his remodeled action adheres to the ICC's playing conditions will not be known until a report from this test is generated by Foster's team over the next two weeks.

Cool - now let's see how good will he be after his action's gotten "fixed". Good to see ICC being proactive on this chucking issue offlate though.

The same controversy will return to haunt the bowlers even if they are back after remedial work. Who is to say that they will not bowl differently than what they have bowled during testing? is there a limit to the times they can go for this remedial work or can it go on indefinitely?

I think this is the second time that he is undergoing the remedial work. A couple of years back there was a similar incident, and he had to undergo remedial work. So probably, they can continually perform the remedial work whenever the bowling action begins to change from norm.

Well if he gets caught again, he'll get suspended again until he works it out. I don't know if there's a threshold to this kinda thing. Let's see.

It appears that the SLC has begun a campaign to stamp out bowlers with illegal actions from their domestic game.

The reporting and banning of Sri Lanka offspinner Sachithra Senanayake for an illegal action was the trigger for SLC's campaign. Senanayake was reported in May during the ODI series in England and has since been tested in Cardiff and undergone remedial action in Perth.
