A 38-year-old former West Indies cricketer, who was famous during 1999, will appear before a Tunapuna magistrate today charged with the rape of his 12-year-old relative.
The girl reported to her mother on Friday that on July 8 the man forced her against her will and had sexual intercourse with her. She said she was threatened and told not to let anyone know about the incident. However, the girl said that she was so traumatised about the incident that she could no longer keep the bizarre information from her mother. The girl, after confessing to her mother, was taken to a District Medical Officer who confirmed that the she had been raped.
The girl was later interviewed by WPC De Peiza Williams of the Tunapuna Police Station and a statement recorded. The cricketer was detained at his Valsayn home by officers of the St Joseph Police Station and taken to the St Joseph Police Station where he was formally charged.
