Black Brazilians push government to pay reparations for slavery

Slavery in Brazil didn’t end until 1889, making Brazil the last nation in the Western Hemisphere to outlaw the institution, and the legacy of slavery has firmly ensconced Black Brazilians in the lower rungs of Brazilian society.

Like America, these people shouldn't expect the government to do such an action. I don't know what it could be but I always notice when it comes to the discussion of reparations to some groups of black people, others become quite irate and very "technical" in terms of who qualifies for reparations and etc. Black Brazilians represent the largest population in Brazil and yet the majority of the population lives in poverty. There has to be a power structure in place to ensure lighter skin Brazilians rep the benefits base solely on race while the poor maintain their place in society. The entire issue is not all that complex. It's simply about righting history's wrongs but it will never happen.
