Put the politics aside and it's patently obvious that Mahela is a great player.

He once played a cover drive during an ODI a few years back and the commentator, Bob Willis, said it was Rohan Kanhaiesque. 8)

* But like most great performers, Mahela has underperformed against some opponents---he averaged 33.41 in 16 tests versus Australia and surprisingly he averaged 32.17 in 27 tests against Pakistan.

* Jayawardene will be playing his last 2 tests against Pakistan---and before that 2 tests against #2 ranked South Africa.

* Hopefully Jayawardene's overall average doesn't dip below 50.
