Groundsmen apologises for preparing India favouring pitch

Nottinghamshire's head groundsman has apologised for preparing a pitch that suited India as opposed to England for the first Test at Trent Bridge.

India's finished the opening day on 259 for four after winning the toss and electing to bat.

Opener Murali Vijay has finished the day unbeaten on 122.

Groundsman Steve Birks says they intended to produce a pitch with pace, bounce and carry but that failed to happen.

He says there's a lot of moisture underneath the surface which has left the England team frustrated.

Haha I think they were a bit cautious Cappo. And went slow. Besides weather and all, certainly gotta take conditions into account. So it's a bit more conductive for pace bowling.

That said, they've played right into India's hands with this pitch. It's VERY Indian-like.

I knew it was something Indian like.There was some reverse swing on offer.Most deliveries stayed low and not much bounce was on offer.India would like to carry on from here and score something big to put the pressure back on the poms.
India too were fooled at first,they thought it was a bouncy pitch and played it all safe.

Terrible pitch for the conditions but shame we did not win the toss.

So even the English with the technology cannot prepare a pitch to suit their fast bowlers.

Look like there is an art to dis ting.

The comms say back in the day the pitch used to suit Rice and Hadlee and dis groundsman learnt from that groundsman. So I dunno.
