He said the message being sent is that “it is a blessing—this is a power that she is there—we have many, many persons who say this is concrete that sit there.”
One of the ladies who were dressing the statue on Saturday, Sharmila, stated that they decided to change the statue’s attire around 13:00 hrs that day. “The other girl saw the thing falling down, but we did not check, but when we started to wrap Mother’s sari, we saw the thing dropping on our hands, and then when we took a long look—all her sari full, full with the sindoor and it dropped to her lap on the ground. On Sunday people started to dip out the sindoor for a blessing.”

Here we are in the year 2015.  Within the last 150 years, human beings have made astonishing technological and scientific achievements.  We have a germ theory of disease and have eradicated some of the worst plagues and diseases known to man through modern medicine.  We have traveled to the moon and have sent robots to explore far off planets, asteroids, comets and even outside of our solar system.

And yet, despite all of the foregoing, we still have people who believe that a celestial deity chooses to reveal itself by inhabiting a man made concrete statue (which was bought at a store for $10), and which bestows its blessings and approvals by drinking milk from a spoon or spouts powder.

This story from Black Bush Polder is perhaps the best illustrations of my view that religion represents the childhood of our species.
