Sammy was selected to do a job and he may have been the ideal candidate because he was a yes man.
Sammy has many very good attributes. He is a trier, he does his best, he is passionate, he is a team man but sadly as a cricketer he is mediocre and especially in tests it is a travesty he has been allowed to lead for so long.
He did not merit a place. He did not have the leadership qualities to ignore his many other cricketing shortcomings as we all did for Brearley.
You cannot blame him that despite his continued failures he was retained in all three formats until fairly recently.
That to me is astonishing.
I do not think he should represent the Windies again in any format but at a stretch let him play in T20s.
Out of courtesy, I thank him and hope the next phase of his life, hopefully without intentional cricket, is a good one.
Bye.
