David Hemp, the Bermuda batsman, has relocated to Australia to work as an assistant coach at Melbourne-based side Prahran.
Hemp, a former county player with Glamorgan and Warwickshire, will work at Prahran under new head coach Peter Di Venuto, bringing to Toorak Park the experience of 271 first-class matches.
The 43-year-old helped with Prahran’s match-day preparation in this week’s match against Northcote.
“I got a bit of a feel for the club and was made to feel very welcome,†Hemp said.
Di Venuto is keen for him to captain the Second XI but Hemp said that it depended on his work situation when the season started.
He relocated to Melbourne with his family five months ago and is trying to source other coaching roles.
The move to Australia will put into doubt Hemp’s future with the Bermuda team, which he captained before stepping down a year ago.
He last played for Bermuda in November 2013 at the World Twenty20 qualifying tournament in the United Arab Emirates.
