Hillview College left-handed batsman Jeremy Solozano demonstrated yesterday that he is one for the future, hitting 236 for the East zone against North in a drawn match in round three of the BG T&T Under-19 Interzone two-day tournament at Honeymoon Park, El Dorado. Solozano made the familiar conditions at Honeymoon Park count. Solozano has played numerous matches at Honeymoon Park over the years, as it is Hillview’s home ground.

The left-hander, who started the day on 64 not out, spent 310 minutes at the crease, hitting 27 fours and two sixes in his 293-ball knock. East made 400 in reply to North’s first innings score of 198. East did not declare earlier because the East coaching staff wanted to give Solozano the opportunity to get a triple century. Solozano unfortunately could not get to 300, being the last batsman dismissed. Solozano controlled the innings, as the next highest scorer was Shakeem Prince with 41. For North, Mikel Riley (4/71) and Donavon Clayton (4/82) both took four wickets.

That "293 balls" bit doesn't inspire confidence. Don't get me wrong, credit where it's due and all. But usually where it's such "quickfire" knocks, players who do that fizzle out quickly unfortunately. But that's probably just an unfounded assumption, but that's been my observation anyway.

looks like he wanted to spend lots of time at the crease
