Ryder dropped from NZ squad for World T20

Troubled batsman Jesse Ryder has been omitted from the New Zealand squad for next month's World Twenty20 tournament in Bangladesh after being fined for a late-night drinking binge prior to a test match.

Ryder was seen drinking in Auckland bars with teammate Doug Bracewell in the early hours of the morning before the first day of the first cricket test against India this month. Both players accepted a charge of misconduct and were fined for their actions.

I do not think that New Zealand have made a good decision in dropping Jesse Ryder from the squad for the T20 world cup. He is an attacking batsman who on his day, can take apart any bowling attack in the world. The guy is a match winner and considering the format of T20, you need match winners on your team.

Crazy really.


Yes he was a bit naughty but  do not get too carried away with the discipline issue.


I was backing the kiwis to win, especially with Ryder at the top.

This is not a trivial issue. The guy ended up in a coma after a pub brawl. He's had repeated history of lack of discipline. And he's back to self destruction, it does matter. He's been cut enough slack, I  usually sympathize with people getting harsh punishments like this, but he was jusst begging for this.

I recall Punter being a repeated offender and the ACB stuck with him. Sure the circumstances are not mirrored.


From what I know of this recent episode is that he was out far too late before an important match which I am not sure whether he was due to play or not.

And no the circumstances are hella different. The guy got nearly killed in a pub fight. Whoever's "fault" it was is besides the point. The least you'd expect this guy to do is not to drink his tits off during a crucial series against a top opposition. I'd say that defo warrants this punishment.

Sad, because I really think he'd have been an asset.

That was March 2013 and I now recall that incident which was very unsavoury indeed.


However what has he done since then?


I think the ACB got Punter counselling etc....didn't they?
