Confident Bishoo eyeing Windies recall

Georgetown— The highly rated leg-spinner Devendra Bishoo is eyeing a recall to the West Indies line-up.

However, in order to get the attention of the West Indies selectors again, Bishoo must first stamp his authority during the upcoming West Indies Cricket Board’s NAGICO Super50 tournament, starting January 30 in Trinidad and Tobago.

The 28-year-old, who is a part of the national 14-man squad, insists that once he bowl to his best and takes wickets regularly he will have a good chance of catching the eyes of the selectors once more.

“Right now I’m concentrating hard on my bowling because I know all I need to do is to continue taking wickets. I just have to be consistent during the upcoming regional tournament and once that has been achieved it’s up to the selectors,” Bishoo said on Saturday during an exclusive interview with Guyana Times Sport.

The ICC 2011 Emerging Player-of-the-Year, who played his last international game in 2012, has been pushed down the pecking order by the emergence of off-spinner Sunil Narine and fellow Guyanese, left-arm spinner Veersammy Permaul, as well as Shane Shillingford, who was suspended from bowling in international cricket by the International Cricket Council (ICC) last December.

However, rather than rolling over and playing dead, Bishoo, who has represented the West Indies in 11 Tests, 13 One-Day Internationals, and four Twenty20 Internationals, is working feverishly to improve his game.

He responded the best way he could by being the leading wicket-taker in the recently concluded Guyana Telephone and Telegraph Company (GT&T)\Hand-in-Hand senior four-day Inter-county tournament, claiming 25 wickets.

If Bishoo wants to be recalled he must do one thing and one thing only----take tons of wickets in the 50 over and 4 day competition.

* Right now all I am hearing from Bishoo and Sarwan is lots of talking.

* Sarwan needs to score runs and Bishoo needs to take wickets.

each of dem boys looking at the WI team and probably saying, "I am not better than them?"

however, they seem to forget about the higher standard requirement for them!  Tongue

Unless Sarwan and Bishoo excel, the Fletchership will not be extended to them.

Bishh must  increase his repertoire of deliveries as he bowls the same over and  over

Doosra,

His decline was as rapid as his rise but one wonders with him, and many young players, how well they are handled. Leg spin is a very challenging art and can win matches.

It amazes me he could be ICC emerging player and then disappears and I would argue he was over exposed and not handled properly.

However with anything it is up to him and others to plot their own course black.

I felt Bishoo was seen as the solution rather than part of it.

Doosra it is amazing when we think players are finished they reemerge with the same mediocrity.

Hence the me coining the Fletchership.
