Badree out T&T Super50 team

West Indies leg-spinner Samuel Badree has been overlooked by the national selectors for the upcoming Nagico Regional Super50 tournament to be staged in T&T at month’s end.

T&T Guardian understands that the leg-spinner did not get the selectors’ nod as did Yannic Ottley and Navin Stewart who were on the national team for the Champions League T20 tournament in India.
The selectors, led by former fast bowler Alec Burns, met on Tuesday at the National Cricket Centre (NCC) to finalise the team. They choose 15 players and will trim it to 14 with the most likely man missing out being Derone Davis from the squad chosen.

The squad, to be led by West Indies one day international captain Dwayne Bravo, includes his brother Darren who returned home early this month from New Zealand citing personal reasons. He is available and will be leading this country’s batting in the series.

Also there are other West Indies players Lendl Simmons, Adrian Barath (who has been working on his game at the Sagicor High Performance Centre), former captain Denesh Ramdin, mystery spinner Sunil Narine, pacer Ravi Rampaul and Shannon Gabriel. Also included is the impressive PowerGen left hander Evin Lewis who spanked a century in the three-day trial on the weekend. The recently married Jason Mohammed got a valuable 74 on the weekend and hehas also been selected.

All rounder Rayad Emrit will return following the healing of a shoulder injury which he incurred in the semi-finals of the Champions League against India. Burns said earlier this week that Emrit’s fitness will be monitored leading up to the tournament.

Hard hitting all rounder Keiron Pollard will miss out because he is not yet fully recovered from his knee injury. Narine has been included although he will miss the first game of the tournament because of duties in the South African T20 domestic tournament the Slam Bang.

Today, national trials for the four-day tournament continues at 10am at the National Cricket Centre (NCC) in Couva.

T&T squad

Dwayne Bravo (capt), Adrian Barath, Evin Lewis, Lendl Simmons, Darren Bravo, Jason Mohammed, Denesh Ramdin, Derone Davis, Rayad Emrit, Sunil Narine, Ravi Rampaul, Imran Khan, Yannic Carriah, Shannon Gabriel and Kevon Cooper.

Chin,

Do you know why Ramdin was replaced by Bravo?

Did he not do a good job last year?

Thought he did.

I was about to go WTF - but seeing the team, I don't know, looks fair enough to me as well. That's a fairly decent squad, and I can see why Badree is left out.

Alec Burns and the same TTCB are total dunces. You have no good reason for leaving out Badree. He is a bowler who slows down run rates....which is what limited overs is about!
