Mahela Jayawardene is currently the only batsman in the 10K club whose test average is below 50. The question is can he raise his average back to 50 ?

* Mahela is currently unbeaten on 106* in the 2nd test against Pakistan.

* His test average stands at 49.62*

* He has just scored his 32nd test hundred playing in his 140th test.

* It would be a shame if Mahela Jayawardene were to end his illustrious test career averaging less than 50.

As much as I don't think a career should be defined by averages, we live in a day and age where stats have become everything. Ultimately, it would be a pleasure to see him get his average above 50, but he has been a player who always puts the team before himself. His time is running short, so if he wants that average then he needs to get it done within the next few test series.

* The way cricket is covered today----it's all about numbers and stats.

* The minute a batsman walks to the crease---the first thing they splash on the screen is his stats.

* It would be nice is Mahela could raise his average back to 50.

* There is no question Mahela is a world class batsman.

* But there is something magical about a 50+ test average.

* And right now Mahela is the only member of the illustrious 10K club averaging less than 50.
