Andy Flower is all in favour of a review into England's Ashes failings this winter and appears intent on staying on as coach in the months and years ahead.
Flower will meet with the new managing director of the England and Wales Cricket Board, Paul Downton, to discuss his future following a defeat in Melbourne which leaves the tourists 4-0 down in the series with one match to play.
The England coach spoke with enthusiasm, however, about the challenges ahead for him - not just in the final Test in Sydney, starting on Friday, but also in trying to help revive England's fortunes thereafter.
England were last whitewashed in Australia, for only the second time in their history, just two tours ago and subsequently commissioned the Schofield Report to try to ensure there would never be a repeat.
I will bet good money that Dowton makes a coaching change....
and I must say I am sooprised about About the resignation of Swan. I thought that was a silly and gutless thing to do for a proven bowler of class.
after this last test my clear impression is that Swan might have won this one for England after Lyon bowled England down second time. but he had already scampered away for no good reason..in deathly fear of criticism and being forced out soon
Yeah Swann's retirement was totally bizarre. Don't buy the "I was planning way before" crap. There's something behind the scenes when your key spinner retires mid series just like that.
And lmao at lot of people calling for Flower's resignation. Knee jerk ftw.
Swann quitting mid-series was totally 'out-of-the-blue' ........ and cowardly, at least that was how it seemed to me, given the Twitter business .......... and yes I agree he could have been a key player in the last test given Lyon's success but we'll never know.
Re Andy Flower ..... I think he has been a good Coach for ENG with a good rapport with the Captain/players and at least he is being honest and sensible with his above statements and not throwing blame at anyone in particular.
Even though some are calling for him and possibly Cook to quit ..... that would be a knee jerk reaction as Kyle said .....
Reviews should occur in times of success to ascertain what lead to success but no more so than when you fail. It will happen, Flower will stay in post, unless he wants to go.
Cook has not covered himself in glory on the field. Quite negative at times.
