Brampton Guardian  ByTorstar News Service  A fight over legal basement apartments in Brampton, pitting many longtime residents against those who want affordable housing, was front and centre Monday.
An evening meeting of the Planning Committee at City Hall dealt with the controversial issue of legalizing second units, now mandated by the province.
“With the second unit, there’s nothing to determine the number of people that can live in a second unit,” resident Brian Johnston told council members. He also warned that the $200 fee being proposed to register a second unit wouldn’t come close to covering additional infrastructure and education costs as a result of all the extra residents.
