Remember he did not give consent to the Bay of Pigs and when he found out and asked to send in the military which is what those who set it up wanted he refused to do it..which saved the world and we did not know it.

by then the Russians already had nuclear weapons installed in Cuba armed and ready.  if the american military had gone in it would have meant world war 3.  not even the americans knew those weapons were already there.
