THE REMAINS of a seven-year-old girl have been found in the stomach of a 10ft crocodile in Australia’s Northern Territory.

The Aboriginal girl was swimming with friends at a waterhole on Friday when the reptile struck. It attacked a man, who got away, then dragged her under the water.

Wildlife rangers mounted a search but did not find and shoot the crocodile until yesterday.

The waterhole, near Gumarringbang cattle ranch about 200 miles south-east of Darwin, was said to be safe as a crocodile had never been seen there.

The girl has not yet been identified.
