I have fond memories of traveling to "Town" on Malali as a kid.  She used to dock at a village called "Adventure" on the Essequibo Coast.  The old girl was a real workhorse.  Even found herself on the Guyana $20 bill.

I can never understand the economics of transporting merchandise from one end of the country to the other by truck that has to ride on a boat

Yep.  It was long overdue Krish.  Despite the popularity of the speed boats these ferry vessels still play an important role in transportation for folks living on the Essequibo Coast.  On my trip home next year I'll definitely book a ticket on the Kanawan.

Yeah, the Torani was being used temporarily as Malali was being repaired.  Word is that Malali will now be used for routes in the interior in places like Bartica.
