Police officers shot and killed three protesters who were demonstrating against the government's decision to cut its electricity subsidy. Protesters also blame Bosai for the government's decision, which has meant increased expenses for locals. The protesters have blocked transportation routes in the city of Linden, the second-largest city in the country, preventing food and fuel from reaching Bosai's diamond and gold mines. The blockades have negatively impacted work at the mines. Bosai mines gold, diamonds and bauxite in Guyana, where the diamond industry specifically, and resource mining in general, are considered important to the national economy, according to Mining.com. Before the protests broke out, Bosai had intentions of investing an additional $100 million in order to expand its operations in the country.
