Today Breakfast Television finally revealed to the nation who the first Canadian Bachelor would be. Ta da! Enter Brad Smith. “I’m extremely honoured to be chosen as Canada's first bachelor. I take this experience very seriously, and I truly believe in the process,†said Smith. “I can’t wait to meet all the wonderful Canadian women who have put their lives on hold to experience all of this with me. I hope I can live up to their expectations, as I know they'll absolutely exceed mine.†The 28 year-old CFL wide receiver (who's currently a free agent and living in Toronto) grew up in the small town of Hudson, QC, and graduated from Queen's University before going on to play for the Montreal Alouettes, the Toronto Argonauts and most recently, the Edmonton Eskimos. But he's about to face an entirely different playing field: the world of dating!
According to Brad's bio, he's "drawn to independent, intelligent women who are comfortable in their own skin and enjoy an active and social lifestyle." He also insists he's attracted to a woman and just "as confident in a ponytail, sweatpants and sweatshirt" as she is dolled up for a big night out.
“Brad is the full package – a quintessentially Canadian, down-to-earth man,†said Claire Freeland, Director of Original Programming, Rogers Media, and Executive Producer of The Bachelor Canada. “He is completely committed to this experience and in it for the right reasons. It’s Canada’s turn to find love with The Bachelor Canada and we could not have hoped for a more well-rounded and genuine person to kick off the first season.â€
With casting complete (sorry all you ladies who didn't get a call back!), City TV will air the nine-episode season this fall. Will Canada tune in to see its very first all-Canuck Bachelor? how can you trust your fiancee/husband/wife after watching/knowing that they hugged and kissed and God only knows what else they did..... with so many others on the show?? ::redcard::
