The operations of the Guyana Fire Service (GFS) were boosted yesterday with the addition of four fire tenders to its fleet at a cost of more than $200 million.
Minister of Home Affairs Robeson Benn handed over the keys to the four fire tenders to Fire Chief Kalamadeen Edoo following the opening ceremony of the GFS Senior Officers conference.
The two-day conference is being held under the theme “Understanding the challenges and working towards improving fire and rescue services”.

Fire control and fighting is one big bureaucratic hurdle in Guyana. From the maintenance of Fire Hydrants to the Trucks themselves. Everything operates from one single centre.
This is socialized Control, which must go in the 21st Century in an emerging modern City. The various Bureaus of Georgetown, like Kitty and Prashad Nagar should have their own Fire Departments, along with their respective "Village Councils".
But this must not happen to benefit and empower the affected residents as the politicians will exercise less control and power !
One "Cookie Cutter" operated by our politicians will work for the Freedom, Justice, Liberty and Democracy of all residents administered by the current City Council.
