Demerara Bank opens $500M branch in Mahaica - chairman - 12-24-2020
The opening of Demerara Bank’s eighth branch at Mahaica is in alignment with the strategic focus and position of the government.
This pronouncement was made by President Irfaan Ali while delivering his address at the opening on Tuesday. The ceremony was also attended by Senior Minister with responsibility for Finance, Ashni Singh, and Chairman of the Board of Directors of Demerara Bank Limited, Dr Yesu Persaud.
Demerara Bank’s CEO, Pravinchandra Dave, disclosed that the new bank was constructed at a cost of $500 million and includes the cost of a solar system which provides 100% renewable energy for the branch.
Even though the Mahaica branch was only officially opened on Wednesday, it has already facilitated over 1,000 new accounts and approved three loans. The building also houses the Diamond Fire and Insurance Service.
