Does Toronto feel like an American city to you?
Not even a little bit.
Once you get past the skyscrapers in the Financial District and the mainly grid system of streets, it actually reminds me far more of London than any U.S. city — and it’s still quite different from London.
Like London, Toronto has pubs on practically every other street corner, people are quiet and largely keep to themselves, the streets have names like “Queen” and “King” and “Parliament”, and the architecture is largely Victorian, Georgian and Edwardian — and the older buildings and many of the older homes look more British colonial than anything you see in the U.S. or in most of Canada for that matter.
Even some of the newer architecture is reminiscent of British Regency architecture.
