Indian girls, shedding names like “Nakusa” or “Nakushi” which means;

“ unwanted " in Hindi,

hold up their name change certificates during a ceremony in Satara,

250 kms from Mumbai, on Saturday.

the saddest part of this story is that parents/relatives knowinly gave the girls those names  Confusedad:

commendable efforts on activits who are trying to bring about changes.....especially in attitudes about female babies in india.

The names of ' Unwanted "

to go with the " Untouchables ".

Krish...societies the world over discriminate against women. And the fact that these girls can regain their dignity via a renaming ceremony is wonderful. More to the progressive organizations in the new, progressive India. Thankfully.
