some years ago Russia ban out GMO totally. it is now a rime to grow, sell, import, or research and experiment GMO in Russia with severe penalties.

One of the mistakes that the West made was to assume that Russia would not be able to feed itself once the sanctions about Crimea kicked in. But Russia is even larger than the US. They have had an agricultural system big enough to feed the population. But it had fallen into a disorganized mess. But after the sanctions they have slowly rebuilt a new system of getting food produced quickly, and easy to shift across the country.
