Two Horses Die at Early Preakness Races - chairman - 05-21-2016
Two horses died on Saturday during early races at Preakness Day. Homeboykris, a 9-year-old horse, collapsed and died after winning the first race. And in the final turn of Race 4, Pramedya, a 4-year-old horse, collapsed and suffered a major fracture. It was euthanized on the track.

I am really sorry to hear this because those animals are just being used without any thought. I am not this sorry when it happens to a person because we know what we do and we have a choice. I was never a supporter of using animals for our own entertainment. I think it is barbaric.

that is a concern, always been a concern in horse racing. the people in the business don't care. they want to make money and that's it.
but that is the same dam thing people who want to make money do with the world entirely including humans. I dare anyone here to get a clean spoonful of food when the day comes, that is good for their body and not the poisons that are killing us all.
man here is concerned for horses..but I don't see him also concerned for human beings.
I post all kinds of threads here about these issues. few say anything about what is happening to people...but they jooomp and make noise about horses..and dogs too

I was listening to the radio yesterday and I was amazed at the news, and not really the news itself but the fact that the hosts acted as if it was something that happens a lot and they did not make a big deal of it. I am not the biggest horse racing fan out there, but I would have to think that this is pretty rare and that it is a bigger deal than they made it out to be. Sad story, but I am curious to see where it goes from here.

horses dying on the tract is not a rare happening. it happens often enough..always have
there is no monitoring system in horse racing that is detached and disinterested from the business capable of policing that industry properly.
it is the same in all industry. industry require administration but industry has bought out the administration so there you go.
that is the way humans have decided to business. it is the same with all business. people get injured and die in industry at a far, far greater rate from lack of proper working conditions that any rate at which horses die.
that is what I am saying. there is in Ontario, Canada a huge government department called workers compensation that deals only with only death and injury to workers in the province. it runs billions a year.
that is the level of human destruction that takes place in routine industry. yet it sooprises people here to read of 2 horses dying in a day. that is unusual but horse die in horse racing all the time but not 2 a day often..even 1 a day.
but people bet broken and die all the time in industry and we don't appear to know that horrific fact.

It's generally the jockey's fault for not knowing whether the horse is fit for exerting or not. Contrary to popular belief, most owners and trainers care a lot more about the horse. The owners stand to gain a lot more if there million dollar horse lives- that is how they get back what they invested in the horse. And trainers are generally way more attached to the horse to just let it die for a race. Also, they need to have better regulation in place to make sure no horses die.
