Confirmed: Cricketer Franklyn Rose to be deported - chairman - 04-12-2016
UPDATED 4.47PM The Minister of Immigration has decided not to intervene in a deportation case involving West Indies cricketer Franklyn Rose.
Lawyer Ramya Sathiyanathan said she's disappointed there hasn't been a suspension of deportation on humanitarian grounds, as he doesn't have an established home to go back to in Jamaica.
Mr Rose has been detained in Mount Eden Prison for the past five weeks, awaiting deportation.
Ms Sathiyanathan said this is poor treatment, and even though he was here illegally, to lock him up in a criminal institution was a bad look and made his existing health issues and depression worse.
Franklyn Rose played 19 test matches for the West Indies team, and his lawyer says he's been a cricket coach for various community clubs here.
Rose was originally granted a work visa when he was offered a position as a coach for the University of Auckland’s Cricket Club – but has not had a valid visa since 2012.

I just can't understand what Franklyn Rose is all about. He want's the New Zealand authorities to grant him a stay on humanitarian grounds because he doesn't have a place to stay back home. Why is this so, hasn't he handled his affairs properly? Well, it would seem so to some extent because I guess if he had he wouldn't be in the current situation he is in a New Zealand jail.
