Lithium Battery Cargo Barred From Airliners - chairman - 02-23-2016
Shipments of rechargeable lithium batteries will no longer be allowed on certain aircrafts because of a safety risk, an aviation agency has said. The International Civil Aviation Organization said the ban—effective April 1—is because the batteries could cause large fires, destroying passenger planes. Lithium-ion batters are used in cellphones, laptops and some electric cars, but the ban doesn't apply to batteries already packaged inside equipment (like a laptop). The council's president said Monday that the cargo will be prohibited until a new packaging standard can be established, which likely won't be until 2018.

I think it's the right move especially since it can endanger people. Lithium batteries are fairly lightweight and they have light coverings as well. That's why if the covering is damaged, it can lead to a spark causing fires. Or if the battery heats up, that can lead to pressure and worse, explosion.
If the packaging can be changed, then these companies can ship their products again in aircrafts. I do wish they think of the safety of the people and package the batteries in a more safe way.
