Canada and The Queen - ketchim - 11-23-2015

If Justin Trudeau and Queen Elizabeth choose to reminisce, she might recall the little-known story of the late evening drinks she shared with his mother and father.

It was during a royal visit in the 1970s. The Queen and Duke of Edinburgh had retired at the end of a long day to their rooms at Rideau Hall and Trudeau, with his wife, Margaret, headed in the opposite direction to 24 Sussex Drive.

Later that evening, a surprise call came to Sussex Drive from Rideau Hall asking if Mr. and Mrs. Trudeau would mind if Her Majesty popped over for a nightcap.

According to Margaret, the three had drinks while a shoeless and very amusing Queen regaled them with stories and they all laughed late into the night.

Justin Trudeau was a small child and on that particular royal visit was presumably fast asleep in bed

Pierre Trudeau pirouettes behind Queen Elizabeth II during a May 7, 1977, picture session at Buckingham Palace in London, England.

Thirty-eight years after his father caused an international sensation with a pirouette behind an oblivious Queen, ::LOL::

Re: Canada and The Queen - Astdua - 11-23-2015

The queen is pretty badass. Apparently she volunteered in WW2, used to drive and operate trucks. When the saudi king was on a visit to UK, she drove him around and he was scared shitless because a woman was driving.

Thank you, Mr Prime Minister of Canada, for making me feel so old!

Re: Canada and The Queen - ketchim - 11-28-2015

One that I personally remember well from my childhood and indeed, treasure is this:

It is 1982, again on Parliament Hill. Queen Elizabeth signs the Constitution Act, thus empowering Canada’s legal foundation,

including our Charter of Rights and Freedoms.

On that cool day in April, seated next to you, was my father.

Pierre Elliott Trudeau was your fourth Canadian prime minister.

I am your twelfth.
