Relaxed Kristaps Porzingis heats up in Game 2 — with new mentor - chairman - 10-10-2015
WASHINGTON — Carmelo Anthony said he will be Kristaps Porzingis’ “big brother’’ this season, but Sasha Vujacic has taken over the role of the Knicks rookie’s mentor.
As hoped, the 7-foot-3 Porzingis was more relaxed Friday night and much better in his second preseason game as he posted nine points, 10 rebounds, two blocks and three assists in 21 minutes as a nifty sidekick to Anthony’s continued brilliance.
With Anthony scoring 21 points in 25 minutes, the Knicks outgunned the Wizards, 115-104 at Verizon Center.
Porzingis shot 4-of-9 and looked to be feeling his oats at times — a far cry from his shaky preseason debut Wednesday at the Garden against Brazilian club Bauru. The sometimes-wild Derrick Williams finished strongly against Washington’s subs and wound up with 23 points after three early turnovers.
