Clive Rice, the former South Africa captain who led the national team on their return from isolation, has died at the age of 66 in a Cape Town hospital on Tuesday after suffering from a brain tumour

He was on par with Botham and Hadlee,had it not been for apartheid he would have made it to the elite list of all time greats as well

Colonialism as well.Racial discrimination has brought doom on themselves only.
They have missed many eminent sportspersons representing the country.Either way lets stick to sports.Politics is a nasty subject.

This was such sad news. He'd recently been to India for surgery which was suppose to be successful. He was admitted to hospital suffering from severe stomach pains and the cause of his death is supposed to be septicemia. I'm not sure whether his cancer had anything to do with it.

Well didn't know about him but may his soul rest in peace and I hope he was never one of those who supported the apartheid system in South Africa.

He never advocated apartheid,never really encouraged it.
He was the first test captain of South Africa in the post apartheid era. Although he didn't play much thereafter,just 3 ODI's.

He was never test captain. He only played in our first three ODIs and was controversially dropped before the 1992 World Cup. I suppose really he was lucky to be picked at all at the age of 42.
Although I often saw him interviewed, I never saw him play as I only started watching cricket during the 1992 world cup. Judging by his stats it seems like I missed seeing someone very special in action.
