Pooran confident about CPL return - Chin - 05-20-2015 Pooran confident about CPL return Published on May 19, 2015, 9:52 pm AST By Roger Seepersad RECOVERING FROM INJURY: Nicholas Pooran. The Limacol Caribbean Premier League (CPL) Twenty20 bowls off in just about a month's time and Trinidad and Tobago batsman Nicholas Pooran feels he will be ready to make what will be a surprise comeback. Pooran turned heads during the inaugural edition of the CPL in 2013 when he struck 54 off 24 balls for the T&T Red Steel against the Guyana Amazon Warriors. Now 19 years old, the left-hander wants to create a similar stir this time for his new franchise the St Kitts and Nevis Patriots who took a chance and bought the injured batsman in the 2015 CPL draft. Pooran, who was sidelined since January after suffering multiple injuries in a car accident, said he is recovering well and thanked his national and club teammates for pushing him towards a speedy recovery. Although not 100 per cent fit as yet, Pooran is simply happy to be able to walk around on his own and is eager to get back on to the field with a bat in his hand. "Everything has been off for about a month or two, I just need to strengthen up a little more but I am feeling great now," said Pooran. "I think I will have some time to make a decision if I can play or not but the last two months I have been doing pretty well. I am starting to strengthen back my legs. I started back running and the CPL is a couple of weeks again so I think I will be ready. It is just a matter of time now," the hard-hitting batsman explained. He also noted that his new franchise the Patriots have been in contact with him, asking about his injuries and his recovery. "They really want me to come and play and I think I will be able to play. Once St Kitts are willing, I should be ready. I always confident," the 19-year-old batsman added. "I am hungry to play. A lot of people say that it was serious injuries and that I need time but I know how I am feeling now. I know I will be ready," he explained. "I have been getting a lot of support from my teammates and when I go to any Clarke Road games, they have a lot close players and they keep telling me 'Pooran, can't wait for you to come back.' "Yannick (Ottley), Kjorn (Ottley) and Derone (Davis) are always around and pushing me continue my hard work. They have really showed a lot of support for me since the accident...these fellas always around. They always pushing me and that has helped me a lot," said Pooran. And although he has been out of the game for a few months, he said the game has always been on his mind. "Although I am not playing right now, I am always hitting a cork ball and there is a group of youngsters from around McBean who are eager to learn and who really look up to me. I try to help them out, help coach them, pass on knowledge and try to give back to the community," Pooran explained. "They help me stay focused and they really inspire me because some of them are now starting to play and they really want to learn so I am happy to try and help because I started my cricket right here in McBean," he added.
